Mount Prosperous herd tests each cow for A2 status.
Rod Kent has had every cow in the milking herd tested for Beta Casein A2 and the majority are Homozygous A2xA2.The milk is processed on the farm for sale locally as Cream,Yoghurt,Creme Fraiche and a Guernsey Cheese is to be launched shortly.
Beta Casein A2 is thought to have benefits for those susceptible to Type 1 Diabetes, and Autism.
The milk from the tested A2 cows will be used in a medical trial to provide evidence to show if there are beneficial effects of A2 milk for Autistic children, who are often on a Casein free diet.
The 10 cows that were not Homozygous A2 can be separated easily now that the testing has been done and a study of the pedigrees of these 10 shows that the results are consistent with other A2 results for individual sires already tested.
